Moving! And Outback Steakhouse!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Well! It has indeed been a productive few days. Yesterday, Allyson and I moved to this amazing new house that I love to bits, and went to Outback Steakhouse last night to celebrate.

You know what that means? I can check several things off my list!

42. Move to a bigger house
69. Live in the Greater Wollongong area
93. Eat at Outback Steakhouse

However, I have been forced to leave Contours gym, meaning there are a couple of goals I will need to change, as they are no longer viable. I’ll blog more about that a little later.

Sadly, I’m using mobile broadband to post this, as we are waiting for our phone and internet to be connected. It’s going to be hard. This stick is S L O W as all hell much of the time. Still, at least I had the foresight to buy the prepaid stick a few weeks ago.

Anyway, see you later. I’m off to organise my bedroom.

Super Bogan

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Happy Australia Day, folks. Don’t let the bogans bite.

No seriously, if a bogan bites you, you become a bogan. Be careful out there my Aussie friends.

Oh yeah! Special thanks to @jiangyin and @thecarlywalker from Twitter for having the conversation that sparked the idea ;)

Moving to Mangerton

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Fairy Meadow?

Mangerton is such an ugly word. With other suburbs in Wollongong having names such as Fairy Meadow and Figtree, Mangerton is a pretty unappealing name for a place to live. But, really it’s a lovely area.

Which is just as well, since we’re moving there on the 12th of February.

Yes, we were offered the Mangerton house. And the Figtree place, too. But, they wanted us in there too soon.  We were pleased as punch today, after two harrowing inspections that turned out to be a waste of time, to be called by the real estate agent and told our application was accepted.

We are going to have a dishwasher. Is that not incredible?

It is to me… I detest washing the dishes, at least during summer where I am drenched with sweat by the end.

On the date we sign the lease, I will be able to tick off #69 on my 101 things list.

Best of all, we’re going to have more space… and a dining room. And we get to take a month to pack up rather than a week.

Back and Blogging Again!

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Hey people! I gave up on my blog when it was all weird with bizarre symbols. But I was going through my email spambox when I found a comment on one of my entries. So I popped on over here and like magic, it was as though nothing had ever happened. Sweet.

Well, I don’t have much time right now as I have to get ready for work soon, but suffice to say that there is A LOT to catch up on!

  • The largest change has been my change of address. I now live with my sister in a 2 bedroom villa. It’s not that large but it’s cosy and a good size for just the two of us. I have a queen size bed now which is awesome.
  • Business is still chugging along, though it stalled for a while there. Not making much money at this point, but what the hey. I’m making a little. Just working out kinks in my process. Working on four sites currently.
  • Comic has been on hold since Script Frenzy. Haven’t felt like it but I plan to start drawing at that moment of inspiration. It will come eventually. :-/
  • I skimmed Drawing the Line a couple of months ago, and decided that it sucked beyond repair. I consider it my practice novel and nothing more. The plot is just too pathetic.
  • Next month I’ve booked a trip for my sis and I to go to Melbourne. I paid for it all since I owe her money.
  • I own a laptop again. Brand new from Catch of the Day. I made sure it had a dual core processor so I wouldn’t get frustrated with how long it took to do ANYTHING such as even load a browser, unlike the Compaq Presario I bought off Dad for $150.
  • I am a member of Contours gym. It was really tough for the first few weeks. I got so sore all the time. Now I don’t get sore but do get muscular fatigue for about 4 hours after I go, so I make sure I do it in the late afternoon so I can focus on working during the day. I’m seeing an improvement in my strength, but my weight hasn’t decreased at all. Hopefully it’s due to my big, heavy, bulging muscles.

So that’s a quick update on my life right now. Will try to fill it greater details when I have a bit more time ;)

Later!

Playful Teasing = Social Skills?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Reported in yesterday’s Daily Telegraph: New research has found playful teasing develops social skills.

Just what the kids needed, a new reason to be a bully. Just where is the line between “playful teasing” and bullying anyway?

I am pretty much the opposite of what this article describes.

New research has found playful teasing, and being called names such as “ranga”, could be good for young people because it helps them bond and develop social skills.

Not in my case. From my experiences, I may never be able to “bond” with anybody beyond distant friendship.

It may even make “victims” more likely to take on leadership roles in the long term.

Again, not in my case. I have terrible anxiety now. Leadership? Never. I will do what others ask of me grudgingly, but I can never tell others what to do. It is part of my problems that I can never let anybody see me as authoritative for fear that it will translate as seeming mean or unlikeable.

“They learn how to respond to playful criticism … that can be useful in later life,” she said, adding that teased kids could end up in leadership roles – and became strong enough to come back with witty comments.

My response to any kind of criticism? Offense. Embarrassment. Shame. Blow to my self esteem. Takes me right back to my days in the playground. Intellectually, I can tell what kind of criticism it is and how I should respond, but I just don’t.

This is terrible advice. This article is dangerous. Really, really dangerous. Take it from me, I am utterly effed up.
