I call them iSnobs.
I work in IT for a living. Just yesterday, I handled a user issue at an office where someone couldn't remember the password to their Exchange email. I changed the password. This user has a Macbook Pro 17" (with 30" Apple display). I called later to confirm they could get in. I asked if everything was OK with (user's) laptop. The user's assistant replied, and I quote, "It's not a laptop, it's a MACBOOK PRO." and then confirmed it working. This is a pure example of what you describe.

How dare I describe such a precious jewel such as the Macbook Pro as a mere laptop. How dare I.... :)

I guess my biggest problem with Apple is that on top of its products it charges a premium for its image. An image that I despise, because corporate-created images always put me off no matter what kind of brand it is.

Hi there,

I've posted about this on my blog in the past. I bought a Mac in 2004; back then, they were good value. Nowadays, they are priced far above what I can afford to pay, so when I got a new computer in January, I got a Dell (I run Windows and Ubuntu on it). The low-end Macs are under-specced, over-priced and can't be upgraded easily. Shame, because I do like the Mac OS, both its desktop and its Unix underpinnings.

While it's completely true that Apple software is massively better than Microsoft, generally, many Apple partisans seem to be labouring under the delusion that this is something to be proud of. It's like marketing a game as being more fun than removing your own face with a cheesegrater. :)
